Recruitment / Application for Typesetter
« Last post by 7.62x51mm NATO on August 13, 2013, 05:36:46 AM »
First off, I'd like to say that I'm still around to help translate.  I feel like this will make me more useful around here, though.
-> Link to Test.

- What projects?
Yukibrigade stuff.  Hey, remember me?  The translator for one of them?
- Restrictions?
I don't do specifically yaoi/yuri/porny type things.  Ecchi is fine.
- Timezone?
   America/Chicago  (i.e.  Central Standard)
- Free time?
Enough.  School comes first, but this doesn't seem to be too big a problem, given the site's activity.
- Where to assign me?
Actually, can I work as a substitute?  If someone's gone for too long, needs a break, or just up and quits, I can do it.  Of course, if I can lighten the load for Yukibrigade, I would be a very happy man.
- Favorite series?
Fullmetal Alchemist (done), Detective Conan (ongoing), Kaichou wa Maid-sama! (ongoing), Clannad (dead?), Full Metal Panic! Sigma (dead?).  I do a sort of sandbox project with Haruhi Suzumiya (Tsugano), which means I practice cleaning, translating, and typesetting the whole thing.  I also do an independent Fire Emblem project (I translate and 'clean'), which I'm getting close to completing.

Feedback, Suggestions and Help / Typesetting applicant tip

(I didn't know where to post this, but I felt like I should share this.)

Applying to join our typesetting crew?  Don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on Photoshop software to open up our test's .psd files?  Then please read and consider this article:
How to open a .psd file.
My personal preference is Paint.NET (Windows only, sadly. I'll try to explore Linux options in the future.), but feel free to explore the other options (GIMP is also pretty good).  To install the PDN plugin, extract the .dll and place it into your PDN's FileTypes directory.  Mine is "C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\FileTypes" .
For additional information on Paint.NET and typesetting, refer to my document on Paint.NET and typesetting in the tutorials section.  Again, I'll try to look for Linux alternatives sometime in the future.

Anyway, bonne chance, good luck, 頑張って and 祝您好運!  (All the languages I know for extra luck!  :P)

Recruitment / Application for J-E Translator
« Last post by kuroneko66 on July 26, 2013, 06:50:39 AM »
Country: USA

Reason for application: I have been reading manga for over 4 years and now that I am in college I am learning Japanese aiming to be a translator. I have only completed Japanese 1 of 4 (which covers the first five chapters of the revised edition of Genki 1 so far) but I figured that I'm still learning (taking Japanese 2 in the fall), can look up what I don't know and can ask my instructor for help if I really need it. I figured that I could work on my Japanese and you could use all the help you could get. Perhaps I could start on the simpler series or those lacking translators so that people more advanced than me can work on series with a higher priority.

Time available: I can realistically spare 3-10 hours a week (essentially as much time as a small part time job).

Figured I'll be productive this summer and do something Japanese related.

Country: US

Reason for joining:I been reading some of your translated mangas from some time and it has always mention a need of translators. I always wanted to help out but never decided to do so. Therefore, I finally decided to do something to keep me busy  this summer and in order to maintain my Japanese skill I figured translation work would be a good choice.

Free Time: Aprox. 1-3 hours a day

Hey there, saw one of the calls to action, and decided to throw my hat in the ring.

What of our projects are you reading?
Witchcraft Works is the only one, I think.

Is there any restriction in the kind of series you could do for us?
Not really, but I prefer to avoid gore. (Not that I think you'd do that, but just puttin' it out there.)

What Timezone do you live in?
Eastern Time (UTC-05:00)

How much time could you spare for us?
1-3 hours a day?  It's kind of in flux.

If you join us, list at least 3 of our series where you could work.
Hara to Natsu
Sugar wa Otoshigoro
Deus ex Machina
Yuzu chu

Mention your favorite series not done by us.
The Various Touhou manga (WaHH, mostly)
Fullmetal Alchemist
Elemental Gelade
Desert Coral
Tokyo ESP
